If you're looking to do a fun Valentines activity this weekend then we have got you covered! This bubbling love potion is super easy to make and the kids will LOVE it.
TO MAKE LOVE POTION YOU WILL NEED
- 1/2 cup of plain flour
- 1/2 cup of bicarbonate soda
- 1/8 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp of gel food colouring
- Mixing bowl and spoon or Zip-lock bag
- White vinegar (added to make the bubbles)
- Toppings, we used dried petals, biodegradable glitter, Rad-rice & chickpeas
Please note this recipe is enough to make 1 colour, we used 3 colours in our potion, so you will need to repeat this recipe for each colour. Food colouring may also cause light temporary staining, so this should be made in a messy safe area and spoons used when mixing.
First you need to make up the potion powder. To do this, mix the gel food colouring and oil together in either a bowl or zip-lock bag. If using a zip-lock bag, please wash and reuse the bag when finished. Once your colouring is mixed with your oil, add in your flour and bicarbonate of soda. This will require a bit of mixing to ensure the colouring is spread throughout the mixture, it might be easier to use your hands but be warned, food colouring can cause temporary staining on your skin.
Once you have your potion powder mixed together, you are ready to brew your potion. Add your potion powder to a bowl, sprinkle in some toppings and pour in some vinegar. We used a syringe to add small amounts of vinegar at a time.
When your potion has stopped bubbling, it will make a thick gloopy paste which is great for making potion pie. Why not try decanting it into bowls or jars and decorate it with your toppings.
